DAY 0
From Cooma follow the Snowy Mountains Hwy to the abandoned gold mining town of Kiandra approximately 90km from Cooma. From there, turn off the highway and head towards Cabramurra (follow the signs to Mt Selwyn). Bypass the Cabramurra turn off and continue along the Tooma Road (a.k.a the Cabramurra-Khancoban road) towards Khancoban. Approximately 3km past Bradleys (a.k.a O'Briens) Hut is the Round Mountain car park, where the car will be left.

From the car park, we will do a short night hike in to the campsite. Leaving the car park, we head south along Round Mountain Trail for 1.5km to the Farm Ridge Trail turn off. We turn left here and follow Farm Ridge Trail downhill for 500m to Round Mountain Hut and our camp site. If we are feeling energetic, we may continue on downhill and camp beside the Tumut River (about 3km).

DAY 1 (15-22km)

From Round Mountain Hut, head downhill along Farm Ridge Trail for 1.8km to the Tumut River crossing. After crossing the river, leave the trail and follow the river downstream for approximately 3.2km to the junction with Doubtful Creek. Cross Doubtful Creek and head southeast up the hill. Attempt to pick up the walking track that leads to Far Bald Mountain. It is a 2km steep climb from the river at ~1270m up to the ridge line at 1640m. Eventually you will come across a fire trail that connects Far Bald mountain with a location further south.

Once the ridge line is obtained, it is followed approximately east before gradually turning north. At approximately [GR 313 085 FARBOO] packs should be ditched for the 4km round trip to the summit of Far Bald Mountain. After returning to the packs, leave the ridge line and head southeast downhill approximately 600m to Boobee Hut. If it is already mid afternoon by the time the hut is reached, this may be the camp site for the evening.

If time is not a factor, the decision may be made to continue further on towards Happy Jacks Plain and Brooks Hut. If so, head northeast "skirting the edge of the forest" [Craig Doubleday] until Happy Jacks Road is reached. Cross the road and drop down to Happy Jacks Creek. As of writing, there is a track from Boobee hut out to Happy Jacks road which can be easily followed rather than following the forest.

Ford the creek and climb eastwards out of the valley, skirting the north side of the rocky bluff overlooking the creek. Continue eastwards, passing through a slight saddle on the north side of a tree-covered hill, then contour around along the south bank of the valley, before climbing slightly to the grassy saddle at the end of Arsenic Ridge.

At the grassy saddle two grassy wheel ruts come up from the south; continue north along an indistinct foot track, skirting the treeline on the eastern side of Arsenic Ridge until Brooks Hut site is reached.

From Boobee Hut to Brooks Hut is an additional 7km, with every additional step having to be retraced the next day. Again, if by now it is late afternoon a decision may be made to camp on Hendersons Creek, Happy Jacks Creek, or somewhere nearby.

DAY 2 (13-20km)

From the camp site, head for Mackays Hut. From Boobee Hut this will be nearly due south. If the camp site was closer to Brooks, then along Happy Jacks Plain on the northwest side of Tibeaudo Creek is a more direct route. From Boobee hut head South East across the plain and locate an old water race which is easily followed to the South.

From Mackays Hut it is approximately an 8.5km trek to Cesjacks Hut. Leave the hut, head west along Grey Mare Trail for approximately 1.7kms. Leave the track at its highest point after crossing Diggers Creek (before it heads downhill to Doubtful Creek) and follow the ridge line south. There is a faint track to follow at the ridge line, which quickly fades to nothing. The trail is quite easily navigated as long as you stick to the ridge line.

Continue south along the ridge over (or around) Spencers Peak and then up onto Munyang Range. Before arriving at the hut, you will pass the old ruin of Moulds hut, and its still standing toilet. Climbing back out of the valley and over the ridge line, a fire trail will be seen in the next valley. Either walk down to this trail (it is Grey Mare fire trail) or head through the grassy valley to the South West to find Cesjacks hut. If the hut is occupied/busy, then a decision may be made to head west for and find a campsite on the other side of Doubtful Creek.

DAY 3 (12km)

From Cesjacks hut, cross Doubtful Creek and head west towards Jagungal Saddle, approximately 3.5kms distant. From the saddle it a 2.5km push uphill to the summit of Mount Jagungal at 2062m. After enjoying the (hopefully) spectacular views from the summit, head southwest down the spur of the mountain to approximately [GR 238 976 JAGSOUTH]. From here turn right and follow the headwaters of the Tumut River down to Grey Mare Trail.

If it is past early afternoon by the time the trail is reached there are two alternative easy "outs" from this point. The easier of the two is along Round Mountain Trail via Derschkos Hut. The other alternative is along Farm Ridge Trail via O'Keefes Hut.

However, the intended route is to cross Grey Mare Fire Trail and follow the Tumut River downstream until a suitable campsite is found.

DAY 4 (12km)

From the camp site on the Toolong range, head down into the valley and pick up Round Mountain fire trail. For this track back to Round Mountain car park.
