DAY 0
From Cooma follow the Snowy Mountains Hwy to the abandoned gold mining town of Kiandra approximately 90km from Cooma. From there, turn off the highway and head towards Cabramurra (follow the signs to Mt Selwyn). Bypass the Cabramurra turn off and continue along the Tooma Road (a.k.a the Cabramurra-Khancoban road) towards Khancoban. Approximately 3km past Bradleys (a.k.a O'Briens) Hut is the Round Mountain car park, where the car will be left.

From the car park, head south along the Round Mountain fire trail, checking the GPS for the start of Theiss village fire trail. Turn right off Round Mountain fire trail and follow the old trail to the top of the ridge (about 200m) and find a location to pitch camp for the night.

DAY 1 – Theiss Village Fire Trail to Pretty Plain (22 kms 6 hours)
From the camp site, continue following the old fire trail to the west. When the trail is hard to follow, use your map and GPS to make sure you are following the easiest track. After about 3 1/2 kms you will cross the main section of Ogilvies creek [GR 199 087 OGILVIS] which should provide water for the rest of the morning.

Continue wst, where you will eventually reach Dargal's fire trail, at which point your pack can be dropped as you take a short detour to the newly rebuilt Patons Hut [GR 166 085 PATONHUT] for a late morning team.

After visiting Patons Hut, head back to your pack, then continue to the south and across the Toolong Creek tributary The trail crosses the Toolong Creek a number of times before passing another track to the West, which runs out to Wheelers Hut. Eventually Dargals trail reaches the ford at Tounge Bend to get across the Tooma River. This will be a boots off affair, so it also a good spot for a late lunch [GR 153 029 DRGLTOMA].

After the Tooma River crossing, 1 km down the trail, the junction of Hell Hole Creek fire trail will be found. Take this new trail to the East which will lead you to the top of Pretty Plain where the Tooma River and Hell Hole creek intersect. This is the end of the road for today, so locate a comfortable camp site for the night.

DAY 2 – Pretty Plain to Farm Ridge (18 kms 6 hours)
From the camp site alongside the Tooma river, head east along Hell Hole creek fire trail as it leads up the steep slope out of the valley. The trail climbs over 300m out of the valley quite quickly, so take this early morning walk slowly until you hit the top of the ridge for a well deserved early morning tea break.

From here the track is more undulating for a couple of kilometers until you reach the most south eastern point of the track. At this location [GR 204 005 HHCRKDER] you can either continue along the fire trail to where it intersects with Round Mountain fire trail, or you can continue in a easterly direction off-trail until you relocate Round Mountain fire trail closer to Derschko's hut. Take a break at the hut for lunch.

After lunch, continue along Round Mountain fire trail until it intersects with the Australian Alps track, or Grey Mare fire trail. Turn left here and continue to the east around the foot of the great Mount Jagungal.

The fire trail continues to the north east and passes a number of interesting things to stop and look at including the met station, and the rebuilt O'Keefes hut. Shortly after O'Keefes hut you will locate the start of the Farm Ridge fire trail [GR 270 034 GMFRJNC], and the old farm ruin which will be the camp for tonight.

DAY 3 – Farm Ridge Round Mountain car park (12 1/2 kms 6 hours)
The trail home is a well trodden one, so there is no problem finding the way home. Head up the Farm Ridge fire trail to the top of the ridge line and follow the marked track north.

The trip to the only major obstacle is about 8 1/2 kms along the track, and is the Tumut river crossing. This is possibly a good stop for lunch before taking the long and laborious walk up the hill to the Round Mountain car park. A quick stop at Round Mountain hut along the way should see the end of the trip rounded out in good fashion.
